This Saturday Julie and I are visiting friends about an hour and a half away. We could drive back the same night… or book a hotel room.
That would cost, of course.
And here I am, wondering: if I pick up extra counselling sessions this week, is that a sign that Wealth Now is working? Does that mean I should book the hotel room?
But wait—am I making this conditional?
Am I saying, “If X happens, then I deserve Y”?
That feels like ego territory, waiting for proof before letting myself enjoy something simple.
Wealth Now whispers differently: “Already enough.” It’s not about earning the right. It’s about choosing from presence.
So the real question becomes:
Would staying overnight deepen the sense of ease, presence, and connection for Julie and me? Would it help us relax, slow down, and savour time with our friends instead of rushing back?
Then another thought rises: doesn’t everybody enjoy an overnight hotel stay? Isn’t it like winning a prize? And if it feels like a prize, then am I just chasing an ego buzz?
I pause. I ask myself: is this sugar or nourishment? The buzz of “proving” I’ve earned it—or the deeper ease of letting myself receive rest and connection?
I remember: I’ve lived a life of scarcity. So of course a single night in a hotel feels loaded, like it carries the weight of a thousand denied nights. My default wiring still says: play it safe. Don’t spend. Drive home.
But Wealth Now isn’t about compensation or denial. It isn’t about a thousand nights to make up for the past, or about never booking one.
It’s about presence. It’s about asking: Would this choice let me feel more rested, connected, and alive right now?
Maybe the bravest thing I can do is not swing to either extreme but simply choose once, consciously. Not a prize, not a proof, not a thousand-night correction—just one night, received as enough.
I don’t need to win joy.
I can simply receive it.
If this reflection resonates with you, my book Wealth Now goes deeper into these everyday questions of presence, money, and enoughness. You can explore it here: marklockyer.com/wealthnow.
